Home Remedies for Diabetes

  • Methi (Fenugreek) Seeds crushed and soaked over night and consumed early morning along with water.
  • Lady finger is a good kitchen item which lowers sugar level very effectively. One Lady finger cutted from both ends and soaked overnight in a glass of water. In morning it is to be smashed and filtered. This filtered water should be poured in mixer-grinder, add one amla (without seed) and 1/4th tsp haldi (turmeric powder), make juice, to be taken empty stomach in morning. This juice helps in controlling blood sugar levels.

Lifestyle & Diet for Diabetes

  • Avoid sugar in any form like rice, potato, banana, fat intake.
  • Take all bitter foods, wheat, barley, millets.
  • Shadangapaniyam or water boiled with ekanayakam (Salacia reticulate) is excellent to quench thirst in diabetics.
  • In Yoga - Matsyendra asana & Mandukasana is useful.
  • Minimal use of oil and fat. Avoid chat, samosa, Puri, Parantha etc.
  • Whole flour with bran. Make a 1/4th mixture of Chana, Bajra or Yav and maize with wheat.
  • Occasional use of one cup boiled rice without maand (extract soup out of it after boiling and throw it).
  • Dalia and cornflake can be used in breakfast.
  • Use of Chana, lobia, rajma and soybean be increased by decreasing Daal.
  • Mango, Banana, Grapes, Leechi, Chikoo etc, more sweet fruits should be avoided.
  • Exercise is the most important regimen for diabetes patients. Brisk walking is very important.
  • Patients are Very reluctant to follow advice but one can start walking by 10 minutes daily and increase in phased manner to achieve the ideal walk of 5 to 6 km daily in one hour or so.
